Many of my clients ask me if I think it is a good idea to use white fonting on their resume. White fonting is the practice of attempting to manipulate the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) that many companies use to sort through mountains of resumes by placing keywords (the words that describe the applicant's skills and abilities) in the white spaces on the resume in a white font so they are not visible to the human eye but can be picked up by the ATS.

"There's an old saw that's still true even in these days of downturn: once you get a job, it's time to start looking for another one. If you already have a job and you're not half-heartedly testing the waters for a new one, you're putting your career at a disadvantage."

"Among the best-known consulting firms in that new industry is Advanced Internet Recruitment Strategies (AIRS), a Hanover, NH, company whose seminars have attracted more than 10,000 professional third-party recruiters and in-house human-resources managers. Some of AIRS's methods involve digital sleights of hand, such as "peeling back" URLs and "flipping" or "x-raying" Web sites. But much of what the company teaches is basically old-economy networking with an Internet spin."

"Cisco cuts 1,000 employees. Motorola drops 22,000. Everyday, it seems, some company in the high-tech sector releases another wave of workers into the labor pool. Paradoxically, the layoff trend may actually make it harder for CIOs to recruit good candidates. AIRS, an e-training firm for recruiters, found that 77 percent of recruiters are finding it more difficult to recruit now than during the economic boom of last year."

Tools are now available to not only search for data but also accumulate data on any given group of people. "Webhire also delivers integration with AIRS Oxygen,
unlike any other talent management solution provider. This is called (surprisingly) WebhireConnect: AIRS. As long as the recruiter is an AIRS subscriber, all they need to do is click the AIRS link and they will automatically be able to search the AIRSnetwork - no need to login to a new system. The recruiter can schedule searches, send candidate communications, and reach the entire extended network of AIRS Oxygen -- including relationship networking tools such as Spoke...We pursued AIRS based on their
quality and leadership position in the market."

Sourcing the right candidate for the right job quickly is the foundation for talent management and this candidate sourcing tool is the fastest-selling recruitment search tool on the market. With the Webhire integration, recruiters can export candidates from the AIRS network of databases directly into Webhire, so recruiters can build their own candidate database in their Webhire system."

"Nearly three quarters of recruiters use the Internet daily to look for potential candidates, according to the results of a survey conducted recently by AIRS, a provider of recruitment training and information technology. Queried about their candidate sources, 73 percent of nearly 1,000 recruiters in all types of industries said they use the net every day. Three percent of respondents said they do not source from the net. The survey also showed that 66 percent of recruiters have less than two years of e-recruiting experience and only 34 percent of recruiters had between two and five years of Internet experience."

"In the corporate recruiting market, we believe that CRM functionality for recruiters, or rCRM, will be offered by more and more vendors over the next 18-24 months," states Chris Forman, CEO of AIRS. "Recruiters can really benefit from a recruiter-specific CRM tool that is specific to recruiting processes rather than a generic sales tool." AIRS' Engage product, announced in June 2005, offers recruiters an automated workflow around managing and developing their network of candidates. Solid rCRM tools will facilitate the development of passive candidate relationships, referrals, prospects and employees. "We call it a 'build it and forget it' relationship tool, where recruiters can identify a passive candidate and quickly set up an automated process to keep in touch with the candidate through personalized e-mail campaigns," adds Forman.
